Netflix’s upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series has received a promising update regarding the show’s release date. With filming set to start in 2026, the project is now expected to premiere in 2027. The recent update has sparked significant excitement among fans.
Netflix’s live-action Scooby-Doo series could get a 2027 release date
Netflix’s live-action Scooby-Doo series is currently tracking toward a 2027 release date, based on the production schedule shared by What’s on Netflix. The show is preparing to start filming in April 2026 in Atlanta, with the shoot expected to continue through the end of the second quarter. The post-production is likely continue beyond the summer, with a 2027 launch being the earliest realistic window. However, as of now, Netflix has not confirmed a specific premiere date.
Netflix officially announced the project in March 2025, nearly a year after initial reports revealed that a live-action adaptation was being developed. Although Scooby-Doo remains one of the most popular animation since its debut in the late 1960s, this will be its first appearance as a live-action television series. The only previous live-action versions were the two feature films released in the early 2000s. They were initially met with mixed reactions but have since gained a strong following.
The project is being developed in partnership with Warner Bros. Television. Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg are leading the creative team as showrunners and writers through their Midnight Radio banner. They are working alongside executive producers André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, Sarah Schechter and Greg Berlanti.
The eight-episode season takes place during the group’s last summer at camp. During the camp, Shaggy and Daphne come across a missing Great Dane puppy linked to a “haunting mystery.” As they start to investigate, they cross paths with Velma, a practical local, and Freddy, a new kid in town who becomes part of the team as the case unfolds.
Netflix has not provided additional release details.
