Stephen Amell answers Green Arrow’s return question for DCU
Stephen Amell addressed the possibility of returning as Green Arrow in James Gunn’s DC Universe during the Arrowverse Heroes panel at Motor City Comic Con, speaking with ScreenRant. When asked about reprising the role of Oliver Queen, Amell said, “I have no idea” what a return would look like but added, “I’d be down to do anything that makes the fans happy.”
He explained that his favorite part of portraying the character was the emotional connection fans have with the series, stating, “Not a day goes by that someone doesn’t talk to me about Arrow… They always then relate it back to their experience with the series.”
Amell originally led Arrow for eight seasons on The CW, ending in 2020 with his character’s death. He returned briefly in The Flash season 9. Since the show’s conclusion, Amell has worked on Heels and Suits: LA. His comments show openness to returning under the right conditions but confirm no discussions with DC Studios.
David Ramsey, who played John Diggle, also responded to the topic at the same panel. He did not directly express interest in returning as Diggle but reacted to the idea of playing a new character. When asked which DC character he would want to portray, Ramsey replied, “I love Darkseid,” though he delivered the comment humorously.
Both actors were asked about casting new actors in their roles for the DCU. Amell responded, “No, thank you!” to the idea, and Ramsey laughed while agreeing, not naming any potential replacements. While James Gunn’s rebooted DC Universe largely starts fresh, fans continue advocating for specific Arrowverse actors to return. Amell’s stance mirrors Grant Gustin’s, who in early 2024 said he was open to returning but hadn’t spoken with Gunn.
