The Simpsons Sets Release Date for Major Milestone Episode

The Simpsons has announced the release date of Episode 800, a major milestone for the long-running series. The iconic animated sitcom premiered on Fox on December 17, 1989, and has since become one of the most influential TV shows of the past few decades, with a profound impact on pop culture. Notably, co-showrunner Matt Selman teased in September that the storyline of the 800th episode would involve the family dog.

The Simpsons sets release date for special 800th episode

The Simpsons Episode 800 Special will air on Sunday, February 15, 2025, at 8:00 PM EST on Fox. It will be immediately followed by the Season 37 finale episode at 8:30 PM EST. The update comes as part of Fox’s winter schedule for the first few months of 2026.

As mentioned above, co-showrunner Matt Selman spoke about how the family dog, Santa’s Little Helper, would be a prominent part of the 800th episode’s storyline in a September interview. “It’s in February,” he said. “That I can tease. I probably shouldn’t tease anything. I don’t think they want me talking about the 800th yet. I’ll say this: It involves the dog. That’s a big tease. How about this, I’ll give you a little more: The dog gets fat.”

Fox renewed The Simpsons for four more seasons in April 2025, while Season 36 was airing. Accordingly, it’s safe to state the series will continue to put out new episodes beyond the upcoming 800th edition.

The Simpsons retains its relevance in pop culture for a multitude of reasons. Perhaps, one of the significant and interesting of those reasons is that the series seemingly predicted various real-world incidents years before they happened.

Alongside The Simpsons Episode 800 release date, Fox’s winter schedule also revealed the premiere dates for The Masked Singer Season 14 (January 7), and Johnny Knoxville-hosted Fear Factor: House of Fear (January 14). Additionally, Family Guy Season 24 will debut on Fox on February 15, an hour after The Simpsons Season 37 finale.
