Highly Promising Shonen Jump Series Just Got Canceled

Weekly Shonen Jump has officially canceled a new supernatural manga series that debuted earlier this year. Written and illustrated by Jun Harukawa, the series began in June 2025. However, the manga’s run concludes with Chapter 17 in Issue #47. The abrupt cancellation has disappointed many fans who praised the manga for its unique story.

Kaedegami gets canceled by Shonen Jump

In a surprising move, Weekly Shonen Jump has officially canceled Kaedegami, a new supernatural manga series. The series, written and illustrated by Jun Harukawa, debuted in June 2025. Harukawa is also known for previous works such as What a Tremendous Numinose, Kohitsuji Tora o Nasu, and Hakai Sareta Gensupu (via ComicBook.com).

Kaedegami concludes with Chapter 17 in Weekly Shonen Jump issue #47, bringing its brief run to a close. The manga’s first compiled volume is scheduled for publication on November 4, 2025, and the final volume on December 4.

It is set in a world where demonic creatures known as Shenguai exist. The story follows Kou, a young orphan who lives with a Shenguai named Chiyou, a being with a violent past. The series attracted early attention for its distinct supernatural premise and brilliant artwork.

The reason for Kaedegami’s cancellation has not been officially announced. However, as with other titles in Shonen Jump decisions regarding continuation are typically based on reader surveys and performance within the magazine.

The conclusion after only seventeen chapters appears to indicate that the series did not achieve sufficient sales or readership numbers. With its run ending after just a few months, the chances of an anime adaptation or a continuation appears to be unlikely.

Following the confirmation of Kaedegami’s cancellation, the X (formerly Twitter) account @WSJ_manga, which regularly reports on Weekly Shonen Jump updates, announced that the magazine will debut three new series in upcoming consecutive issues.

These include “Gonron Egg” by Tanizaki Shuhei (Ware wa Ryujin), “Tonari no Osoegawa” by Hideaki Nabe, and “JK Yuusha to Inkyo Maou” by Hatsubina Matsuri. However, as of now, there is no official confirmation.
