Stranger Things Star on Why Season 5 Won’t End up Like Game of Thrones

As Netflix gears up for the release of Stranger Things Season 5, the excitement and anxiety surrounding the show’s finale are palpable. But fans can rest easy, as Finn Wolfhard has shared an insight that the final installment of Stranger Things won’t meet the same end as Game of Thrones.

Finn Wolfhard promises Stranger Things Season 5 to be special

Stranger Things actor Finn Wolfhard opened up about the cast’s shared fears about how Stranger Things Season 5 might be received. “I think everyone was pretty worried, honestly,” Wolfhard told Time. “The way that Game of Thrones got torn to shreds in that final season, we’re all walking into this going, ‘We hope to not have that kind of thing happen.’ But then we read the scripts. We knew that it was something special,” he added.

Wolfhard’s confidence reflects the meticulous planning behind the Netflix hit. Series creators Matt and Ross Duffer have reportedly been crafting the ending for a long time. The duo, who first conceptualized Stranger Things in 2013, always knew where the story of Hawkins, Indiana, would end, but they just had to earn the right to get there.

After years of battling supernatural horrors in hidden laboratories, abandoned malls, and Soviet prisons, Season 5 will finally unleash chaos on Hawkins itself.

Unlike many fantasy epics that lost their footing in the endgame, the Duffers seem to have had a clear roadmap for Stranger Things since its inception. They originally pitched the show as a limited series, but when Netflix saw its franchise potential, the brothers expanded the world while keeping a cohesive narrative plan.

That foresight is deemed as what separates Stranger Things from shows like Game of Thrones, which famously outpaced its source material. The Duffers, on the other hand, have full creative control and a finale designed to tie up every thread. Stranger Things Season 5 is set in the fall of 1987 and follows the Hawkins crew as they face their most terrifying challenge yet: the showdown with Vecna.
