James Gunn has revealed new details about the future of Peacemaker. The filmmaker recently discussed the possibility of a third season, character crossovers, and how the series connects to the wider DC Universe while promoting upcoming projects.
Peacemaker Season 2 finale won’t set up Season 3
James Gunn confirmed the Peacemaker Season 2 finale will not directly set up a third season, Deadline reported. Gunn said, “You’re gonna find out more in Episode 8 because it’s not necessarily that.” He added, “Some of these characters will continue, but also, it’s not exactly Peacemaker 3. I’m not ruling it out. You’ll see (Episode) 8 and maybe you’ll find out a little bit more.”
It seems in the near term, there are no plans for Peacemaker Season 3. Gunn suggested that Peacemaker and other characters will continue in another DC project, though not necessarily in the long-delayed Waller series. He clarified that while the show is not ending, its story will move forward outside of a traditional third season.
Season 2 featured major crossovers, including Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor and Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr. in Episode 6, bridging the show to the Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow. Gunn said these scenes were filmed during Superman production weekends. “When I pitched to DCU what the basic stories were throughout the TV shows and movies, this was a part of that,” he stated. The Justice League cameo in the first episode and the prison sequence were also part of this interconnected strategy.
Gunn directly addressed fan speculation about Robert Patrick’s Auggie Smith surviving in another universe. He denied theories that the character was still alive, stating, “Whatever Auggie is in this other world, he’s kinder to his children, that is true. We’ll find out more about Auggie next episode.” He also praised Patrick’s upcoming finale performance, calling it “terrific.” Gunn stressed that while Peacemaker will not receive an immediate season 3, the series’ characters remain central to the evolving DCU narrative.
