In the Devil May Cry Season 1 finale, Dante and Mary defeat the White Rabbit and thwart the attempted invasion of Earth. Despite this, the narrative ends on a cliffhanger as a reluctant Mary betrays Dante because of his abilities and imprisons him. Meanwhile, William Baines starts the invasion of hell.

In the season’s final moments, a horned demon who appears throughout the show frees captives of his kind from the Uroboros Corporation. He then urges them to serve the Ruler of Hell, Mundus, before removing his helmet. The horned demon is revealed to be Dante’s twin, a still-alive Vergil. Accordingly, it makes sense that these two will have their inevitable duel in the sophomore season.

Adi Shankar created Devil May Cry from the above-mentioned video game franchise, with Studio Mir providing the animation. Shankar’s previous credits include The Guardians of Justice and Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix. As for Studio Mir, the South Korean animation company has worked on projects like The Legend of Korra, Harley Quinn, My Adventures with Superman, and X-Men ’97.

The voice cast for Devil May Cry includes Johnny Yong Bosch as Dante, Robbie Daymond as Vergil, and Scout Taylor-Compton as Mary. Notably, Kevin Conroy, who voiced William Baines in the inaugural season, passed away in 2022.
