James Gunn, the creator of the superhero series Peacemaker and co-head of the DCU, revealed exactly when Season 2 of the series takes place after Superman. Notably, Superman, also helmed by Gunn, is the DCU’s first cinematic entry. Interestingly, the first season of Peacemaker serves as a spin-off of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) feature The Suicide Squad (2021), whereas the sophomore season is part of the DCU.
How long after Superman does Peacemaker Season 2 take place?
Gunn revealed that Peacemaker Season 2 takes place a month after Superman during the panel for the upcoming chapter of the show at San Diego Comic-Con 2025. “The show happens a month after the events of Superman… a lot of the characters return… in the first episode, we have Guy Gardner and Maxwell Lord,” Gunn said.
Notably, Nathan Fillion played Guy Gardner / Green Lantern in Superman, and Sean Gunn makes a guest appearance as Maxwell Lord in the movie.
Given that it takes place only a few weeks after the events of Superman, Peacemaker Season 2 will likely explore what happened in the movie. It’s also quite possible that the eponymous character’s disparaging remarks about the Man of Steel in Superman come back to haunt him in the show.
The logline for Peacemaker Season 2 states that the titular character “discovers an alternate world where life is everything he wishes it could be. But this discovery also forces him to face his traumatic past and take the future into his own hands.”
The cast for the sophomore season includes John Cena as Chris Smith / Peacemaker, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase / Vigilante, Steve Agee as John Economos, and Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr.
Peacemaker Season 2 is the third entry in the DCU after Creature Commandos and Superman. It premieres on HBO Max on August 21, 2025, and has eight episodes.
