Pirates of the Caribbean 6 Returning Cast & Plot Update Given by Producer

Jerry Bruckheimer recently shared new details about Pirates of the Caribbean 6 and what fans can expect from its cast and storyline. In a new interview, the longtime producer confirmed that the upcoming film will feature a “new take” on the franchise while also bringing back some familiar faces from previous installments.

While speaking with ScreenRant’s Ash Crossan ahead of the June 27 release of F1, Bruckheimer provided a status update on the long-delayed project, Pirates of the Caribbean 6, which remains in development.

“We’re working on a screenplay,” Bruckheimer said. “Hopefully we’ll get it right — and then we’ll make it. We really want to make it, that’s for sure,” he added. When asked whether the next installment would be a continuation or something new, Bruckheimer stated, “It’ll be a new take on it.” He further clarified that the cast would not be entirely new, adding, “Well, not all new actors. We’ll have some back.” When pressed for details, he responded, “I’m not going to tell you which ones — you’ll have to guess.”

This marks a notable update on the franchise following Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017). The project faced setbacks following Johnny Depp’s removal from the film series after abuse allegations involving his ex-wife, Amber Heard. During his trial, Depp stated that he had no intention of returning as Jack Sparrow.

Despite the uncertainty around specific returning characters, Bruckheimer’s statements suggest the film will remain set in the established Pirates universe. Key characters in past entries include Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), Joshamee Gibbs (Kevin McNally), and others. The fifth film introduced new characters like Henry Turner (Brenton Thwaites) and Carina (Kaya Scodelario), who may also return depending on script development.

The screenplay remains in progress, and no cast members have been officially confirmed. Disney has not announced a production timeline or release date.
