An industry scooper has revealed what he claims to be the plot of the now-canceled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. The movie, along with Avengers: Secret Wars, was set to wrap the Multiverse Saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, Disney parted ways with Jonathan Majors, who was cast as Kang and his variants in the MCU, and reworked the Avengers 5 project to focus on Victor von Doom / Doctor Doom, portrayed by a returning Robert Downey Jr.
How Avengers 5’s plot could have been different if The Kang Dynasty wasn’t canceled
Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus spoke on the alleged plot of The Kang Dynasty during the site’s June 2025 Q&A session. When asked whether the universe-hopping actions of characters like Benedict Cumberbatch’s Dr. Stephen Strange, Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau, and Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards would play a big role in Doomsday, Perez claimed, “Yes, absolutely.” Perez then proceeded to speculate that a consistent plot point in the Multiverse Saga, since Disney+’s Loki series, was that the MCU “is currently caught in an endless cycle/loop.”
Perez claimed that everything that He Who Remains (Majors) stated in his “speech at the end of Season 1 of Loki and a bit of it in Season 2 is true.” “No matter what course of action our characters take, the ending will always remain the same: after the Multiversal War with the Kang variants, He Who Remains would win using Alioth, build the TVA, which then leads into the story we all know as the MCU and then loop itself over and over again,” Perez said.
According to the scooper, this was supposed to be “one of the big reveals in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.” He added that the current iteration of the MCU and everything else related to Marvel Studios were “just Try #14,000,605 or so of He Who Remains’ attempts to create a universe/timeline in which the Multiversal War doesn’t happen, and he can just rule over existence forever.”
However, Marvel had to give up on these plans because Majors was fired following his conviction in a case (via Deadline). Perez claimed that with Kang and his variants out of the story, Marvel would “continue this plot point in a very different way than originally intended.”
