James Gunn reveals new cast joining John Cena in Peacemaker Season 2’s opening dance

James Gunn confirmed that Peacemaker Season 2 will feature a brand-new opening credits dance sequence, similar to the viral Season 1 performance. “You get to see Eagly try to dance for the first time,” Gunn told Entertainment Weekly.

He added, “He’s not the best at it, but he tries to really join in.” John Cena noted that everyone approached the dance differently this time, knowing how iconic it became. “People now know the importance of it and hopefully it shines through in Season 2,” he said.

The new sequence was necessary due to significant cast changes. Gunn explained, “We killed everyone in the season, so we kind of had to.” Season 2 introduces new cast members including Tim Meadows as Langston Fleury, Sol Rodriguez as Sasha Bordeaux, and returns from Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, and Danielle Brooks. Judomaster will also play a larger role this season.

Gunn revealed that the song for the new sequence won’t be Wig Wam’s “Do Ya Wanna Taste It” again. Instead, it’s a new hair metal track aligned with Season 2’s themes. “I really went back and forth an awful lot… and at the end of the day, I decided that we use a new song,” Gunn stated.

Season 2’s story connects to the wider DC Universe. “It’s very much connected to Superman and what comes after,” Gunn said. The Quantum Unfolding Chamber (QUC) from Season 1 will be central to the new plot, tying in with technology that appears in Superman. The premiere episode shows Peacemaker meeting Superman-connected heroes, including Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, and Sean Gunn’s Maxwell Lord.

Gunn said the events take place “a couple years” after Season 1 but kept the exact timeline unspecified. Peacemaker struggles to gain respect from the superhero community while others mock him. “He’s starting the season in a bad place,” Gunn confirmed.
