Fans got the first look at Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern, Guy Gardner‘s powers, in the new Superman trailer. The Rookie star was announced to join the rebooted DCU in the James Gunn-directorial as Gardner in July 2023. The highly anticipated film is scheduled to come out in theaters on July 11.
Superman Trailer gives a glimpse of Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern powers in DCU
Guy Gardner’s powers were among the major highlights of the new Superman trailer that dropped on May 14. Gardner, utilizing his Green Lantern ring in a comic-accurate way, immediately caught the attention of fans.
In the 3-minute trailer, Gardner is seen flicking military soldiers and their vehicle away using a giant green energy-constructed hand. This is similar to the powers he possesses in the comics as well.
Additionally, he also creates a giant energy shield with the help of his power ring. Apart from his powers, the appearance, especially the haircut, is also a replica of the one Gardner sports in the comics.
Following his stint as Gardner in Superman, Fillion will reprise the role in Peacemaker Season 2 and Lanterns. Fillion has previously spoken about Gardner and referred to him as a “jerk,” just like in the comics.
He said, “He’s a jerk! What’s important to know is, you don’t have to be good to be a Green Lantern; you just have to be fearless. So Guy Gardner is fearless, and he is not very good. He’s not nice, which is very freeing as an actor because you just think to yourself, what is the most selfish, self-serving thing I can do in this moment? And that’s the answer.”
The actor further referred to his character as overconfident and said, “I think if he has a superpower, it might be his overconfidence, in that he thinks he could take on Superman. He can’t.”
