Guy Gardner has finally showed up in Lanterns, but his appearance may add to a growing DCU mystery. The HBO Max TV show started airing earlier this month and is led by Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre, among others.
Lanterns has dropped a sneak peek of what fans can expect from Episode 3. The brief clip shows an upcoming scene where Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner will visit John Stewart, played by Pierre, in a prison.
While the full episode is yet to air, it’s safe to assume that Gardner’s appearance may establish a link with Hal Jordan’s fate in the show and the DCU.
What do we see in the new Lanterns clip?
The Lanterns Episode 3 clip shows Guy Gardner flashing his Ring’s green light on John Stewart’s face inside the prison. However, the video immediately ends with a message that reads, “Redacted by the Green Lantern Corps”.
Interestingly, Gardner’s appearance comes right after Hal Jordan was found dead at the end of Episode 1 in the 2026 timeline. The third episode may finally explain what really happened to his character and if he’s really dead in the DCU or not.
However, these are still early rumours, and the real details will only come out after Episode 3’s premiere this Sunday.
As for Gardner, he’s made his third overall appearance in a DCU project. Fans first saw him in last year’s Superman movie by James Gunn before he returned in Season 2 of the Peacemaker TV series.
Actor Nathan Fillion recently joked about his increasing involvement in the DCU. “I don’t know if I’m an anchor being,” he said in an interview with ScreenRant. “He’s the thread that weaves throughout the fabric of this universe,” he spoke on his character’s importance in the franchise.
The ensemble cast of the show also features Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Jason Ritter, Laura Linney, and Ulrich Thomsen.
Lanterns Episode 3 will air on HBO and HBO Max on August 30, 2026.
