Amid the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the future of the character Black Panther in the MCU, a recent rumor has suggested that Letitia Wright, who portrayed the latest iteration of the African superhero in 2022’s Wakanda Forever, could return as Shuri in Avengers: Doomsday.
Letitia Wright’s Shuri could return as Black Panther in Avengers: Doomsday
According to Daniel Richtman, the return of T’Challa’s tech-savvy sister to the big screen could happen in Avengers 5 & 6.
In his latest Patreon update, the renowned internet scooper simply stated, “Shuri will be in the Avengers movies.” Nevertheless, Richtman failed to specify if Letitia Wright’s proposed appearance in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars would be as the Black Panther.
Wright assumed the mantle of the Wakandan hero following Chadwick Boseman’s tragic passing, embodying the character in Black Panther 2. However, the movie concluded with Shuri meeting with T’Challa’s son with Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia, causing fans to wonder if the mantle would be passed again.
Marvel has yet to disclose the direction they are planning to go in with Black Panther. While Black Panther 3 has not yet been officially greenlit, Marvel Studios’ VP of Production & Development Nate Moore confirmed in a recent interview that they will begin discussions around the project later this year.
Speaking about the rumored recasting of T’Challa in Black Panther 3, Moore said, “The truth is, there’s no truth to those rumors. Never say never to anything, we haven’t really had a lot of creative conversations with Ryan Coogler yet, because he’s finishing his film Sinners, which comes out this year. We’ll get into it later this year.”
Despite the ever-growing speculations regarding Black Panther’s role in the future of the MCU, Marvel Studios has yet to confirm the character’s appearance in Avengers: Doomsday. The film is scheduled to be released on May 1, 2026.
