The Batman 2’s Andy Serkis Shares Update About the Delayed Sequel

With The Batman 2 having been postponed multiple times already, Andy Serkis has delivered a positive update regarding the movie’s production. Previously scheduled to hit theatres in 2026, the sequel’s release date has been moved and it is now slated to release on October 1, 2027, causing concern among many fans. Nevertheless, according to Serkis, who will be returning to director Matt Reeves’ Batman universe as Alfred Pennyworth, the project has started to take steps in the right direction.

Andy Serkis reveals Matt Reeves has filled him in on The Batman 2’s story

During his recent appearance at Orlando’s fan convention MegaCon, the actor provided an update on The Batman 2’s production, confirming that Matt Reeves has shared the project’s story with him.

In an interview at the event, Andy Serkis admitted that he is equally desperate for the follow-up edition to 2022’s The Batman to come out as the fans. “I am as hungry for it as you all are. He [Matt Reeves] told me the story of The Batman 2, and I was so excited for it,” the Rise of the Planet of the Apes star noted.

While Andy Serkis shied away from giving any specifics regarding the plot of The Batman 2, his update indicates that Matt Reeves has figured out the storyline he intends to use in the much-awaited sequel.

This comes as a minor consolation for fans, following James Gunn‘s comments regarding the movie’s scripting phase. The DC Studios co-CEO shocked many fans in December 2024, when he revealed that Reeves has yet to finalize the first draft of the script for The Batman 2 in a Threads discussion.

With filming yet to commence on the film, fans can expect Robert Pattinson‘s Caped Crusader to return to the big screen in October 2027, provided that there are no more stalls to the production.
