Marvel Studios is reportedly considering DeWanda Wise for the role of Storm in its upcoming X-Men reboot. The studio has not confirmed any casting decisions, but insider sources claim Wise is in discussion for the role. As Marvel integrates mutants into the MCU, speculation about casting and character introductions continues to grow.
X-Men’s Storm could be played by DeWanda Wise in Marvel’s reboot movie
MyTimeToShineHello posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “DeWanda Wise is now being considered for the role of Storm in the X-Men reboot.” No official confirmation has been provided by Marvel Studios regarding her casting.
Previous reports claimed that Marvel Studios considered Ayo Edebiri for the same role. MyTimeToShineHello previously stated, “Now that she’s no longer in Thunderbolts*, Ayo Edebiri is being considered for the role of Storm in the X-Men reboot.” Edebiri originally joined Thunderbolts* but later exited the project, leading Geraldine Viswanathan to replace her.
Storm, also known as Ororo Munroe, controls the weather. Halle Berry played her in X-Men (2000-2014), while Alexandra Shipp took over in X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) and Dark Phoenix (2019). Kevin Feige confirmed that future MCU projects will feature recognizable X-Men characters.
In addition to Storm’s rumored casting, Marvel Studios is reportedly considering Javier Bardem for the role of Mister Sinister. MyTimeToShineHello posted on X, “Marvel is eyeing Javier Bardem to play Mr. Sinister in the MCU.” Nathaniel Essex, also known as Mister Sinister, debuted in Uncanny X-Men #221 in 1987 and gained recognition for conducting genetic experiments on mutants.
Rumors suggest that Marvel Studios is considering Hunter Schafer for the role of Mystique. Feige stated in an interview with DiscussingFilm, “The response to X-Men ’97 just further excited us about how to bring the soap opera and the saga of the mutants to the MCU.” He also reportedly confirmed that Secret Wars will lead into “a new age of mutants and of the X-Men” (via Entertainment Weekly).
