Mondo Man-Bat Figure Returns in Stripped-Down Form

Did you miss out on Mondo Toys‘ Comic-Con exclusive figures? It was easy to do since they went on sale while many people were traveling down to San Diego. But it looks like there will be second chances of sorts. Man-Bat is now up for preorder again, albeit in a slightly more basic version. The figure, based on Batman: The Animated Series, no longer includes a set of fully outstretched wings nor a mid-transformation head sculpt. He still includes two alternate heads and a removable torn shirtpiece. A figure stand also comes packed in, using the waist-clip style to counter his likely top-heaviness.

The Basic Bat

Mondo’s more basic version of the Man-Bat figure costs $230, with payment plans available. He stands 12.5 inches high, and while there’s a limit of three per household, this does not appear to be a limited run. Nonetheless, if you want the figure, don’t wait around. It could sell out at any time.

Man-Bat, a.k.a. Kirk Langstrom, features an origin story that sounds more like the Spider-Man universe than that of Batman. A scientist craving the true sonar sense of a bat, he developed a formula to create this mutation, but instead became a were-bat, dangerous because of its sheer feral ferocity. As Kirk, he’s not a bad guy; as Man-Bat, he’s tough to control and an ironic reflection of Batman’s own gimmick to the extreme. He was also the first major villain to appear in Batman: The Animated Series.

Take a look through the official photos below to see if this hulking hybrid belongs in your Bat-collection. Mondo’s also interested in knowing which villains you’d like to see next, so hit them up on Instagram with your suggestions for more. Black-and-gray “noir” variants of key characters are coming soon — we’ll be keeping tabs and let you know when there’s news on that front!
