New Star Wars: Squadrons Trailer Goes Behind Enemy Lines

Earlier today at the Gamescom Opening Night Live, EA dropped a new trailer for Star Wars: Squadrons, its upcoming Star Wars video game. Within this trailer, players got a glimpse of the game’s single player campaign. As explained by EA narrative producer, Susan Hunka, players can choose to fly for either the New Republic or the Imperial faction in a post-Return of the Jedi galaxy. The Empire may be in decline, but the war is far from over.

Within the video, the Imperial squadron is assigned to retrieve a spy from Hosnian Prime, the capitol of the New Republic. From there, it looks like an escort mission to get the Imperial asset out from behind enemy lines. One of the other objectives is to get more information about the New Republic’s Starhawk battleship.

The trailer also opens with an extended narration by Princess Leia, as she tries to rally recruits for the New Republic. Additionally, there are two more familiar faces in the video: Star Wars Rebels‘ Hera Syndulla and X-Wing pilot Wedge Antilles.

While Star Wars Squadrons supports cross-play among all consoles, only Playstation 4 users can play the entire game in PSVR.  The game will also feature multiplayer options in addition to the single player campaign.

Star Wars: Squadrons will be released on October 2 on all major platforms.
