Bruce Campbell Reveals New Title For the Next Evil Dead Film

Earlier this month, Bruce Campbell confirmed that a new Evil Dead film is in the works. At the time, Campbell said that Lee Cronin will write and direct Evil Dead Now. However, during an interview with Diabolique, Campbell said that the next installment will now be called Evil Dead Rise.

“The official name is Evil Dead Rise,” noted Campbell. “We’re getting a new draft in. I don’t think anything will happen until 2021. Full bore ahead, we’re very excited about it. A whole, new ballgame. No more cabin in the woods.”

Campbell previously said that Cronin was “handpicked” by Sam Raimi, the director of the first two Evil Dead films and Army of Darkness.

Raimi and Campbell also produced Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead remake from 2013. While that film introduced Jane Levy as Mia Allen, the next film will feature a new lead characters.

“From this point forward, they kind of have to stand on their own,” said Campbell while speaking with with Empire. “Which is fine. And liberating. You could have different heroes, different heroines in this case. This one’s gonna be a little more dynamic. We just want to keep the series current. And the mantra, really, is that our heroes and heroines are just regular people. That’s what we’re going to continue.”
