This April, Marvel is launching a new X-Factor series in the Dawn of X. Leah Williams and artist David Baldeón are the new creative team, and they’re putting together a roster that includes Northstar, Polaris, Prodigy, Eye-boy, Daken, and Prestige. Of that group, only Polaris has a history with X-Factor. And it’s Polaris’ past with the team that comes through in two variant covers for X-Factor #1.
Superhero Hype is proud to exclusively debut the X-Factor #1 Hidden Gem Variant; which was drawn by Larry Stroman. Mark Morales inked the pre-existing image and it was colored by Jason Keith. It also features the X-Factor team from Peter David and Stroman’s run from the early ’90s. Except for Quicksilver, the gang’s all here: Havok, Polaris, Strong Guy, Wolfsbane, and Madrox.

Additionally, Marvel passed along another X-Factor variant cover. It also features Polaris, and it was illustrated and colored by Otto Schmidt. However, Polaris seems to be a lot less mentally stable in this image. Something about that smile is unsettling, and Polaris does have a history of instability. Regardless, it could just be an artistic choice by Schmidt as opposed to a glimpse into Polaris’ future. We’ll just have to wait a few months before we know for sure.
Here’s the official description from Marvel:
“MUTANTS HAVE CONQUERED DEATH! By the grace of The Five, the resurrection protocols can bring back any fallen mutant. But such a huge enterprise isn’t without its problems and complications… When a mutant dies, X–Factor is there to investigate how and why to keep the rules of reincarnation. Writer Leah Williams (AMAZING MARY JANE, X–TREMISTS) and artist David Baldeón (DOMINO, WEB WARRIORS) take Northstar, Polaris, Prodigy, Eye-boy, Daken and Prestige into the world of murder and missing persons…”
X-Factor #1 will hit comic stores on Wednesday, April 22.
