Superman & Lois Gets a Series Order at The CW

The CW continues to round out its programming schedule for the 2020-21 TV season. Deadline is reporting that the CW’s Superman & Lois series has officially made it past the pilot stage.

Superman & Lois was first announced back in October. Former Flash showrunner Todd Helbing is spearheading the series, which features Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch reprising their roles from previous Arrowverse appearances. The show will balance their careers and superhero activities with their new roles as parents to their young son, Jonathan.

However, Superman & Lois isn’t the only new DC show that the CW has in the works. The CW is also gearing up to air its “Green Arrow and the Canaries” episode of Arrow, which is expected to serve as a backdoor pilot to a full-fledged series. Deadline’s report suggests there’s a chance that The CW might only air one of these new shows next year. But we’ll have to wait until the network executives review all their incoming pilots for the upcoming season.

It’s unclear how many episodes will make up Superman & Lois’ inaugural season. The CW’s latest Arrowverse series, Batwoman, was initially given a 13 episode order before getting an upgrade to 22 episodes. Regardless, it’s possible that Superman & Lois could follow a similar path.

Meanwhile, the remaining Arrowverse shows are still going strong. Batwoman, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and Black Lightning were all just granted early renewals.
