Chris Hemsworth Reveals He Was Close to Playing Gambit

Chris Hemsworth’s time as the Norse god Thor is far from being over, given the love his characters receives from the fans. Hemsworth’s love for superheroes, though, dates back long before his foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Speaking with Variety, the Australian actor opened up a couple of unlucky auditions which could have changed the course of his career.

“I got very close to GI Joe,” he said. “I got very close to Gambit in the Wolverine X-Men movies. At the time I was upset. I was running out of money. But if I played either of those characters, I wouldn’t have been able to play Thor.”

Eventually, Channing Tatum secured the role of Joe team hero Duke in the 2009 summer hit, while Taylor Kitsch played Gambit in the X-Men franchise.

Then Hemsworth revealed that even when Marvel cast him as Thor, he couldn’t sleep soundly as he had a lot of doubts.

I’ve never been able to sit back and be in the moment, it was about: Am I going to get recast? Are they even going to make a sequel? Is anyone going to turn up to see the film?”

Ultimately, Hemsworth’s doubts proved baseless. No recasting ever happened, and he made several sequels to 2011’s Thor.
