Nicholas Hoult Would Be Down For an X-Men/Avengers Crossover

Although the X-Men franchise as we know it is likely to close with next month’s Dark Phoenix, there’s always a chance for return. Now that Disney owns Fox, it could introduce the characters into the Marvel Universe in the future, and Nicholas Hoult would be down with that idea.

The actor, who portrayed Beast in a number of X-Men films over the years, recently spoke with MTV International. As he promoted the upcoming film Tolkien, the interviewer asked about possibly returning to the role of Beast. That is, if Disney asked for it. Hoult showed some interest in the idea.

“Yeah, I think that it would be cool if they do blend them together,” he said. “I’m not sure what their plans are, but I loved playing the role and I got to take him to a new spot in (Dark Phoenix) and try different things. So if there was a way to keep growing within that character, then that’d be something I’d be interested in.”

Hoult also discussed which side he would be on if there were a project that pitted the X-Men against the Avengers. Despite the overwhelming odds, he’d stay with his home team.

“The X-Men obviously,” he explained. “it’s very different though, superheroes to mutants. They kind of exist in different worlds.”

Speaking with ComicBook, the writers of Endgame, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, expressed interest in such a crossover. Markus explained, “I mean, I’d love to try some different things with these new characters they’re getting from Fox.”

Marvel Studios hasn’t revealed its plans outside of what it’s doing with Phase 3 and Spider-Man: Far From Home. But now that it has Fox’s properties – and Marvel superheroes – back in its fold – anything is possible. And the events from Avengers: Endgame do set up the possibility of alternate timelines.

We’ll have to play the waiting game for now. But Dark Phoenix could set up some interesting theories of what’s to come when it opens on June 7.
