Disney Sets Opening Dates For Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

The Force is strong with Disney park visitors, as the long awaited Galaxy’s Edge is just about set to go. Chairman and CEO Bob Iger confirmed at the recent Annual Meeting of Shareholders that the Star Wars themed rides and shops have official opening dates. Disneyland will get it first, on May 29. Meanwhile, Disney Hollywood Studios in Disney World will launch its version of Galaxy’s Edge near the end of summer, on August 29.

The attraction is over four years in the making, and it was announced shortly before Star Wars: The Force Awakens arrived in theaters back in 2015. Disney and Lucasfilm had a bold vision for what Galaxy’s Edge would offer, including interactive rides that will immerse fans into their favorite sci-fi universe. Galaxy’s Edge also features themed shops featuring specially created food.

When fans visit Galaxy’s Edge, they’ll begin at the main hub, Black Spire Outpost, which is located on the planet of Batuu. The most enticing attraction is likely to be the Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run. Within that ride, guests can board the legendary ship and jump to hyperspace while blasting TIE Fighters and other enemies. There is also a Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance ride. In it, fans will experience a battle with the First Order. This attraction will feature stars from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, including Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver.

Shopping will also play a big part with Galaxy’s Edge. Fans can make their own lightsabers in a special hideaway shop. They can also purchase various snacks from different places as well. This includes sipping blue (and green!) milk at the Milk Stand, or trying Outpost Mix at Kat Saka’s Kettle. Anyone looking for a warm meal can enjoy Roasters, which has exotic meats that are cooked by recycled podracing engines.
