Denis Villeneuve (SicarioPrisoners) is directing the film, which will be released in theaters October 6, 2017. The film will be released by Warner Bros. in North America and Sony Pictures Releasing International will distribute in all media for all overseas territories.

Although story details are not being revealed, it has been confirmed that the Blade Runner sequel is set several decades after the 1982 original and will feature Ford reprising his iconic role as Blade Runner Rick Deckard. The film is written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, and succeeds the initial story by Fancher and David Peoples, based on Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.

David Dastmalchian, who previously worked with Villeneuve on Prisoners, can also soon be seen in Showtime‘s return to David Lynch’s Twin Peaks. Hiam Abbass, meanwhile, recently starred in the critically-acclaimed Israeli film Lemon Tree. Her upcoming projects include the French film Corps étranger, currently in post-production.
