The Dark Tower Release Date Delayed One Month

The Dark Tower release date moved back one month

Sony Pictures has announced some changes to their release schedule in 2017, which you can read about in full by clicking here, and among them is a new The Dark Tower release date. 

Originally set to open on January 13, 2017 the journey to the Tower just got a little longer as the movie will now arrive on February 17, 2017. The film is scheduled to open against Universal Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ The Great Wall and 20th Century Fox’s Maze Runner: The Death Cure.

Director Nikolaj Arcel, who co-wrote the Swedish version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and directed the Academy Award-nominated A Royal Affair, is set to helm the big screen adaptation, set up through Sony Pictures and MRC. Academy Award winner Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind) and Jeff Pinkner (The Amazing Spider-Man 2) have written the screenplay. The film is set to star Idris Elba as Roland “The Gunslinger” Deschain with Matthew McConaughey as the evil man in black and Mad Max: Fury Road‘s Abbey Lee is in negotiations for the female lead.

Ron Howard was initially planning to direct the first film in the series. He is now involved in producing the series through his Imagine Entertainment alongside Brian Grazer and Erica Huggins. Goldsman is also producing through Weed Road with Pinkner set to serve as executive producer.
