Lauren Ambrose and Robbie Amell Board The X-Files

Lauren Ambrose and Robbie Amell will guest star on the fourth episode of The X-Files’ return

There’s just over six months to go before “The X-Files” returns to television with its first new episodes in thirteen years. Officially announced back in March, six new episodes of hit series are on their way to FOX beginning Sunday, January 24, 2016. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are returning as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully with plenty of planned guest stars as well. An update today has The Hollywood Reporter bringing word that both Lauren Ambrose (“Six Feet Under”) and Robbie Amell (“The Flash”) will guest star in the fourth new episode as FBI Agents Einstein and Miller, respectively.

Kumail Nanjiani, the “Silicon Valley” star also well known for his “The X-Files Files” podcast, also revealed over the weekend that he’s set to appear in the new season’s third episode. According to TV Line, that episode, written and directed by Darin Morgan, is titled “Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster.” Morgan, as X-Philes well know, has a particular penchant for comedic episodes, delivering classics like the Rashomon-inspired “Jose Chung’s ‘From Outer Space'” and the War of the Worlds influenced “War of the Coprophages.” You can check out Nanjiani’s image he tweeted from the set below!

Other guest stars for the new episodes include Annet Mahendru (“The Americans”) and Joel McHale (Community), while it has been confirmed that Mitch Pileggi will also be returning as Walter Skinner with William B. Davis will be back as the Cigarette-Smoking Man.

“The X-Files” originally premiered in September 1993. Over the course of its nine-season run, the influential series went from breakout sci-fi favorite to massive global hit, and became one of the most successful television dramas of all time. The show, which earned 16 Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes and a Peabody Award, follows FBI special agents Scully (Anderson) and Mulder (Duchovny) as they investigate unexplained cases – “X-Files” – for which the only answers involve paranormal phenomena.
