Ever since the âX-Menâ franchise gained immense popularity, there has always been talk of doing spin-off films to focus on individual characters. Wolverine is the only one to have achieved this feat so far, but in the past there were plans for a Magneto spin-off as well as the much clamored for Deadpool film. Now it seems that, following changes at the studio, we could be looking at more solo âX-Menâ films.
âThere was a regime [at the studio] that didnât see the worth in [spin-offs], and the current people who run Fox understand, embrace it, and weâre going to do right by it,â producer Lauren Shuler Donner told EW. âIâd like to do Gambit. Iâd like to do Deadpool. Weâll see. Thereâs a lot of really great characters.â
X-Men: Days of Future Past screenwriter Simon Kinberg had a different idea â a Mystique film lead by âThe Hunger Gamesâ star Jennifer Lawrence.
âI love what Jen Lawrence has done with her, and I feel like because she is in such a crowded ensemble, thereâs so much more opportunity if you were to follow her solo.â
The last batch of announcements from Fox about the future of their Marvel franchises revealed a third âWolverineâ film, a sequel to Josh Trankâs upcoming Fantastic Four, and an untitled Marvel movie. Itâs been rumored that this unnamed movie would be the recently-announced X-Force, but thereâs always the potential that could be a solo effort from one of the X-Men. What spin-off film do you want to see from the âX-Menâ franchise?
The next entry in the franchise, X-Men: Days of Future Past, is scheduled to hit theaters on May 23.
