Evan Peters Joins X-Men: Days of Future Past as Quicksilver

The news also arrives following confirmation this morning that Saoirse Ronan is interested in taking on the Scarlet Witch role in Marvel’s The Avengers 2. The actress is said to be the “model” for Whedon’s iteration of the character.

“We both have them,” Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige told SuperHeroHype of the character rights last summer. “There’s a specific arrangement with those two characters that would allow us to use them with ‘Avengers,’ but not discuss or reference their mutant or Magneto-related lineage. They can use them as mutants and as Magneto’s relatives, but cannot have anything to do with ‘The Avengers.'”

Peters will join Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Halle Berry, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing and Boo Boo Stewart in the mutant ensemble, set for release July 18, 2014.

The film is based on the comic book storyline “Days of Future Past,” which ran in Uncanny X-Men #141 and 142 back in 1981 during Chris Claremont and John Byrne’s run and introduced the idea of an alternate future for Marvel’s mutants that grew out of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants killing an important senator, leading to a future where all mutants are hunted by Sentinels.

Marvel’s The Avengers 2, meanwhile, is scheduled for release on May 1, 2015 and, while unconfirmed and unprecedented, the possibility does exist for potential collaboration between 20th Century Fox and Walt Disney Pictures and, while it’s hardly indicative of how he’ll be portrayed in the final film, Singer does mention Quicksilver’s Avengers connection in his tweet. Check back for details as soon as they become availlable.
