Inde Navarrette is officially entering the race for this year’s Oscars, with Focus Features backing her with a major campaign. The studio is pushing the star for the Best Actress category for her breakout role in Obsession.
According to Variety, the distributor’s campaign is part of a wide-ranging effort to submit the film in nearly every eligible category. Director Curry Barker is also being considered in three different categories.
Barker will be submitted for Best Director, Original Screenplay, and Film Editing. Navarrette’s inclusion gives the studio a central figure heading into the coming months. Focus Features is depending on her stellar performance to help drive the film’s wider awards push.
The campaign also includes Michael Johnston for Best Actor, along with Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter in supporting acting role categories.
How much money has Inde Navarrette’s Obsession made at the box office?
Obsession was produced on a relatively small budget of $750,000. But the horror-romance film turned into one of the year’s biggest surprises in terms of commercial success. The R-rated film grossed more than $505.6 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.
That level of success gives Focus Features significant leverage as it mounts a serious awards campaign for its cast and crew. However, its plans for the Golden Globes remain less certain. Variety reports that the studio hasn’t confirmed whether Obsession will compete in the drama, musical, or comedy category.
“After breaking the mysterious “One Wish Willow” to win his crush’s heart, a hopeless romantic finds himself getting exactly what he asked for but soon discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price,” reads the official synopsis.
Blumhouse Productions, Capstone Studios, and Tea Shop Productions produced the film. It first premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2025. Focus Features released the 109-minute film in U.S. theaters on May 15, 2026, while Universal Pictures handled its international release.
