Kevin Feige on Why Avengers: Doomsday’s Robert Downey Jr. Is Best Live-Action Doctor Doom Yet

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has praised Robert Downey Jr.‘s Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday. Downey will return to the MCU as Victor von Doom after playing Iron Man for years. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the upcoming Avengers film will bring together several major Marvel characters. Feige believes Downey is a perfect fit for the iconic villain.

Doctor Doom has appeared on the big screen before. Julian McMahon played the character in Fantastic Four (2005) and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007). Toby Kebbell later portrayed Doom in the 2015 Fantastic Four reboot. Those versions did not fully capture the Marvel villain’s potential.

Empire Magazine notes that Doom “has never been done right.” This made the role a major challenge for Feige, the Russo brothers, and Downey Jr. However, Feige believes Marvel has found the right actor for the job. He called Downey “the greatest actor of his time” and said he “can pull off anything.” Feige also revealed that Downey “found something fairly quickly” with his interpretation of Doom.
