Amazon MGM Studios has reportedly narrowed its search for the next James Bond down to three final candidates. The search for the next 007 has been underway for several months, with the chosen actor set to succeed Daniel Craig as the iconic secret agent.
The upcoming spy film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, who will take on the project following the release of Dune: Part 3 in December 2026.
According to a report from Knight Edge Media, two of the leading actors in the running for the role are Callum Turner and Jack O’Connell. Additionally, the outlet reported receiving word of an undisclosed “third dark-horse candidate.” Speculation suggests this third contender could be Jack Barton, whose name was recently floated in a separate casting report from Page Six.
Amazon MGM reportedly finalized its focus on these three actors as recently as mid-August 2026. However, because Amazon MGM Studios has not officially commented on the ongoing casting process, these details should be treated as unconfirmed rumors for the time being.
Why Amazon MGM’s search has focused on a younger 007
Neither Amazon MGM nor Villeneuve has explicitly confirmed that they are targeting a younger Bond. However, multiple casting reports over recent months indicate that the studio is intentionally seeking an actor in their early-to-mid 30s for a multi-film commitment.
The youngest actor ever cast as Bond was George Lazenby, who took over the role at 30 years old for 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
At 31 years old, Barton is the youngest of the three rumored contenders, which would make him the second-youngest actor to portray 007 if selected. It remains to be seen which actor will ultimately land the role. Further details on the next Bond film remain scarce, though Villeneuve has confirmed it will be his next project following Dune: Part 3.
