In the D23 Lucasfilm Pavilion, a trailer for the Star Wars: Eclipse game was presented. The trailer is the first update in years, confirming that the game has not been canceled.
Although the update is new, fans have pointed out that the trailer is just a longer version of the previously released one. A fan commented, “This is the freaking old trailer. They really couldn’t be bothered to make a new one? Or are you misleading us with the year?” Others say the game would never come, while some wanted more updates on the game’s premise.
Why the D23 appearance matters more than Lucasfilm has said
Regardless of what fans noted in the comments, the trailer serves as a promotion for the game. This highly indicates that the game is indeed in development by the studio despite facing major setbacks over the years. This also indicates that the presentation at the D23 Expo matters more than what Lucasfilm/Quantic Dream has said over the years.
It was first announced at The Game Awards in 2021. The action-adventure Star Wars game is in development by Quantic Dream. However, in 2024, the lead writer Adam Williams exited Quantic Dream to open his own independent studio.
In 2025, the founder David Cage provided an update that the game is in development. This was followed by several internal issues at the game development studio.
As per IGN, further updates were only about debunking rumors of development troubles and delays, amid speculation that the studio was struggling to hire staff members.
That said, Star Wars: Eclipse still does not have a release date. Moreover, earlier this year, the developers shut down their live-service game Spellcasters Chronicles and underwent a mass layoff, prompting the staff to go on strike. Regardless, they noted that the Star Wars project will not be affected by this decision.
