Ryan Gosling-starrer Star Wars: Starfighter has already received a thumbs-up even before its much-awaited release. The new installment in the space story franchise is being helmed by Shawn Levy.
It appears IMAX has full confidence in Gosling, as made clear by a remark from its CEO, Rich Gelfond. Speaking with Matt Belloni on an episode of The Town podcast, Gelfond revealed that he has witnessed the production of Star Wars: Starfighter, and he’s been in awe of how it’s going.
Notably, he even mentioned a throwback element in film, referencing Harrison Ford’s classic Star Wars entries. “I’ve been on set, the Ryan Gosling one, and that’s a throwback to the Harrison Ford kind of Star Wars.”
Gelfond then made a bold claim that the movie would be a hit upon release. “I’m on a limb on this one. I’ll tell you, take that to the bank.”
Ryan Gosling leads the next chapter of the Star Wars franchise
Ever since it was officially announced, Star Wars: Starfighter has been making waves among fans of the long-running franchise. Ryan Gosling, who’s having a great run at the box office lately, is expected to keep his successful streak going.
This year, the Hollywood star was part of Project Hail Mary, a huge box-office hit. Made on a $200 million budget, the sci-fi movie earned over $680 million worldwide. It also earned critical acclaim from critics and audience members.
At the moment, there’s not much known regarding Gosling’s character in Star Wars: Starfighter. However, several rumors have suggested that his codename in the movie might be Damon.
The cast will also include other notable names such as Mia Goth. She is rumored to be a force-sensitive mercenary working for a warlord and arms dealer, played by Matt Smith. Other cast members include Aaron Pierre and Amy Adams.
Star Wars: Starfighter will hit theaters on May 28, 2027.
