Spider-Man is missing from the new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday. However, the web-slinger’s absence raises the stakes for Avengers: Secret Wars.
After months of anticipation, Marvel finally released a full trailer for Doomsday, which opens in theaters on December 18, 2026. The footage reveals numerous superheroes, both new and old, preparing for battle against Doctor Doom. These heroes include The Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the Wakandans, the New Avengers, and the original X-Men. Steve Rogers even returns at the end and wields Thor’s hammer, Mjölnir.
One member of the Avengers who doesn’t appear in the trailer is Spider-Man, arguably one of the group’s most popular members post-Avengers: Endgame. It’s not a matter of if Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker will show up in a future Avengers movie. It’s an issue of when Marvel decides to insert Spider-Man into the story.
How Spider-Man’s Avengers: Doomsday absence could pay off in Secret Wars
Holland is not one of the announced cast members for Avengers: Doomsday. However, that does not mean he won’t show up at some point in the movie. Marvel is known for its secrecy, and the studio loves surprise reveals, so it would not be surprising if Holland is in Doomsday.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which comes out on July 31, 2026, could reveal Peter’s involvement in Avengers: Doomsday. This setup would likely come in a mid-credits or post-credits sequence. However, the more likely scenario is that Spider-Man either shows up at the very end of Avengers: Doomsday or skips it entirely and shows up in Secret Wars.
With Robert Downey Jr. back as Doctor Doom, fans are speculating as to how Marvel will handle Spider-Man’s first interaction with the new villain. Since Downey played Iron Man, will Spider-Man call out for Mr. Stark if Doom takes off his mask? Think about how emotional fans were when Spider-Man disintegrated in Iron Man’s hands during Avengers: Infinity War. Spider-Man’s potential interaction with a maskless Doom could have that same gravitas if it’s saved for Avengers: Secret Wars.
Spider-Man appearing in Doomsday would be a good move, but it’s not the be-all and end-all. If he’s sidelined for Doomsday, then that only increases the anticipation for his eventual arrival in Secret Wars.
