Acclaimed filmmaker Ridley Scott has finally shared a brief update about the current status of Gladiator 3, while also teasing the possibility of making another Alien prequel. Although Scott hasn’t been involved in the creative process in the recent Alien projects, he remains a producer on the long-running sci-fi action franchise.
What were Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel and Gladiator 3 updates?
During a recent interview with The Guardian, Scott confirmed that he’s still open to returning for another Alien movie if an opportunity arises. In addition, he also revealed that he has already started working on the third installment of the Gladiator franchise, after the critical and box office success of last year’s Gladiator II.
“Gladiator is in process right now. Another Alien prequel – yeah, if I get an idea, for sure,” Scott said.

At the moment, Scott serves as one of the producers on FX’s Alien: Earth series, which is described as a prequel to 1979’s iconic Sigourney Weaver-led movie. It hails from writer and director Noah Hawley, with Sydney Chandler, Timothy Olyphant, Alex Lawther, Adarsh Gourav, Kit Young, Erana James, Lily Newmark, and Jonathan Ajayi. The show is currently airing, with the first four episodes now available for streaming on Hulu. Since its debut, it has garnered a Certified Fresh rating of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Gladiator II was directed by Scott from a screenplay written by David Scarpa. The movie was led by Oscar nominee Paul Mescal as Lucius, Pedro Pascal as Acacius, and Denzel Washington as Macrinus. The latter received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor. While developing the next Gladiator movie, Scott is also currently preparing for the upcoming 2026 release of his newest sci-fi movie, The Dog Stars. The post-apocalyptic movie will star Jacob Elordi, Margaret Qualley, and Josh Brolin.
