Flashpoint Batman Was Planned for Zack Snyder’s DCEU, The Boys Star Reveals

It turns out that Zack Snyder had cast Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Thomas Wayne in the DC Extended Universe for a reason.

Morgan is currently busy promoting the second season of The Walking Dead: Dead City with his co-star Lauren Cohan, who coincidentally played Martha Wayne opposite Morgan’s Thomas in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. In a recent interview with Den of Geek, the actor revealed that Snyder had intended to bring him back as Flashpoint Batman in one of his future DCEU movies, which ultimately never materialized due to the filmmaker parting ways with Warner Bros. and DC Films during production on Justice League.

“Truthfully, Zack was gonna do more movies,” he told Den of Geek (via ComicBookMovie). “And I think there was a time when Flashpoint Batman would have seen these two characters in a much bigger role. And that was part of the Zack world of all of it, and then I never got a chance to do that, unfortunately.”

Who is Flashpoint Batman?

The Flashpoint Batman version of Thomas Wayne was introduced in the Flashpoint comic book limited series, published by DC Comics in 2011. After going back in time to prevent his mother’s death, Barry Allen returns to discover an altered status quo, with one of the major changes being that Bruce Wayne was instead gunned down in Crime Alley instead of his parents. This leads to Thomas Wayne becoming the universe’s Batman to avenge his son’s death, while Martha Wayne ends up transforming into his Joker.

While Morgan doesn’t mention where Flashpoint Batman would have popped up in the DCEU, the most obvious answer is the 2023 movie The Flash, which was inspired by Flashpoint. In fact, the movie was at one point titled Flashpoint during its development, alluding to perhaps a scrapped version that would have adhered more closely to the source material. However, instead of Flashpoint Batman, The Flash featured Tim Burton’s Batman, with Michael Keaton reprising the role.

Both Batman v Superman and The Flash can be streamed on Max.
