Rumor: Blade MCU Movie Essentially Canceled But There’s Still Hope

A new rumor on the status of the Blade MCU movie paints a disappointing picture for the film and its potential future, with a slight ray of hope for the character overall.

What is the new update on Blade?

According to The Playlist’s Rodrigo Perez in a recent thread posted to X, he has heard from trusted individuals that the Blade movie is “essentially nixed” for now. Despite rumors that John Wick director Chad Stahelski has boarded the project, Perez says he’s heard those rumors are incorrect, and that all development is paused on the movie for the time being.

Despite the disappointing update, Perez noted that this doesn’t mean that nothing will ever come of the Blade property. The thread goes on to mention that Mahershala Ali‘s Blade will still be introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in either the still-in-development Midnight Suns film, the planned Avengers: Secret Wars movie, or another movie.

Perez says that the inclusion of Ali would be similar to the way that Namor (played by Tenoch Huerta) was introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Although not part of the rumor, Perez notes that he’d personally think Blade would be introduced in a film like Midnight Suns versus a giant ensemble project like Secret Wars.

The road to an MCU Blade movie has been a long one. Originally set to release on November 3, 2023, Blade ended up being delayed to some time in 2024, before being indefinitely delayed again. Recent reports suggest that Marvel‘s Kevin Feige is determined to “press on” with the project, but any updates remain to be seen.
