Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 made its way into theaters last week, and the reception has been largely positive. However, some fans have been wondering where Star-Lord’s helmet and rocket boots were, especially after a pivotal scene late in the movie.
Why was Star-Lord missing his mask and rocket boots in GOTG 3?
When asked about the missing Star-Lord mask, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn explained why they were missing.
“It’s in his desk drawer in Knowhere. He had to get out of there fast as you know!” explained Gunn. “(And as for the next question people ask – the rockets that clip onto his boots are far inferior to the jet packs Rocket has made them so they’re not around at all anymore).”
Viewers with great memories will also remember that Peter Quill’s helmet was destroyed in the second movie, which Gunn also addressed while taking a bit of a shot at Infinity War for it magically coming back.
Gunn would go on to discuss the jetpack vs. rocket boots debate a bit further in the replies. The Vol. 3 scribe would mention that Star-Lord’s boots aren’t as useful as a jetpack and that the boots were unwieldy.
