Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels Swap Release Dates Wasp 3
Just when you thought Marvel was done with moving its films back and forth on the schedule, they did it again. Via Deadline, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels have swapped release dates. The third Ant-Man film was originally slated for July 28, 2023, while the Captain Marvel sequel was set to kick off Marvel’s year with a February 17, 2023 release date. Now, Quantumania is coming to theaters on February 17, 2023, and The Marvels gets the mid-summer slot on July 28, 2023. Wasp 3.
The report noted that both films “are moving along very nicely,” but Quantumania was “further along in the production process, and it was a simple decision by the studio to swap the release dates.” But if we had to offer an additional guess, it could be that Marvel believes that The Marvels will play better in the summer than Quantumania will. The first two Ant-Man movies were only modest box office performers with $180 million and $216 million, respectively, during their domestic summer releases in 2015 and 2018. On the other hand, Captain Marvel launched with $426 million domestic in 2019. However, that film had the advantage of leading into Avengers: Endgame.

With Quantumania, director Peyton Reed will become only the second person (after Jon Watts) to helm a complete trilogy in the MCU. Paul Rudd stars in the film as Ant-Man/Scott Lang, with Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne/Wasp, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne, and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym. Kathryn Newton and Jonathan Majors are joining the cast as Cassie Lang and Kang the Conqueror, respectively. Presumably this film will continue the multiversal introduction of Kang as glimpsed in the season 1 finale of Loki.
The Marvels will be directed by Nia DaCosta, and it will feature a team up between Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), Ms. Marvel/Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau. Samuel L. Jackson will also reprise his role as Nick Fury in the film.
