Adam Sztykiel Will Direct a Wonder Twins Movie For HBO Max

Late last year, HBO Max lost the Blue Beetle movie to Warner Bros.’ theatrical side. However, the streaming service now has another DC original film lined up. Via The Hollywood Reporter, HBO Max has ordered a Wonder Twins movie with Adam Sztykiel signed to write and direct the film.

Sztykiel is one of the writers on the Black Adam movie. His previous credits include Scoob!, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, Whiskey Cavalier, and Due Date. He also created the Undateable TV series. Wonder Twins will be his first film as a director.

The titular twins are Zan and Jayna, a pair of alien siblings who were introduced as sidekicks in The All-New Super Friends Hour in 1977. They were subsequently incorporated into DC’s Super Friends comics and follow-up TV shows. Separately, the twins aren’t very remarkable. But when together, they can activate their shape shifting powers. Zan tends to change into water, while Jayna takes on the form of almost any animal.

Zan and Jayna were sidekicks for most of their existence. Regardless, a Wonder Twins comic was published in 2019, as Mark Russell and artist Stephen Byrne unveiled a modernized take on the duo. They have previously appeared in live-action during the ninth season of Smallville.

HBO Max hasn’t set a date for this project. But with the director in place, casting may begin soon.
