Xolo Maridueña Confirms That He Will Star In Blue Beetle

Yesterday, word broke that Warner Bros. and HBO Max were in talks with Xolo Maridueña for the Blue Beetle movie. Now, less than 24 hours later, the deal is apparently done. Maridueña has announced that he will play Jamie Reyes in Blue Beetle.

“It’s official…I am beyond grateful to be able to fill in these enormous shoes as one of the first Latino Superhero on the big screen,” wrote Maridueña on his Instagram account. “To the team at DC and on blue beetle, Ángel, Walter, Gareth, Galen, Zev, John…Thank you so much for trusting me with this role, we’re about to make a kickass movie. Also huge congrats to Leslie on getting casted as Batwoman, LETS GO OUT AND SUPPORT THESE MOVIES.”

Maridueña currently plays Miguel Diaz on Netflix’s Cobra Kai. Additionally, he previously starred in Parenthood. He has also made guest appearances in Major Crimes, the Rush Hour TV series, and Twin Peaks.

Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer wrote the script for Blue Beetle, and Angel Manuel Soto will direct it. Production will likely begin next year, before its eventual release on HBO Max.
