Disney Pulls Ryan Reynolds’ Free Guy From Its December Release Date

Ryan Reynolds’ Free Guy movie was supposed to be one of the few remaining major releases in 2020. However, the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has claimed yet another release date. Via Deadline, Disney’s 20th Century Studios has pulled Free Guy from its December 11 date. Kenneth Branagh’s Death on the Nile was also pulled from its date on December 18.

Within the movie, Reynolds portrays “a bank teller who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game decides to become the hero of his own story…one he rewrites himself. Now in a world where there are no limits, he is determined to be the guy who saves his world his way…before it is too late.”

Joe Keery co-stars in the movie with Lil Rel Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Taika Waititi. Director Shawn Levy helmed the movie from a story by Matt Lieberman and a screenplay by Lieberman and Zak Penn. Disney hasn’t set a new release date for the film yet.

Disney previously pulled all of its Marvel movies from 2020 release dates, while Pixar’s Soul was moved to Disney+. Now, only a handful of major studio releases remain on the 2020 slate. Warner Bros. has Wonder Woman 1984 is currently on the schedule on December 25, while Sony’s Monster Hunter will follow on December 30.
