Hasbro Unveils the Ghostbusters: Afterlife Ecto-1 for Action Figures

Hard as it is to believe, a movie-accurate Ghostbusters Ecto-1 scaled to action figures has never been a thing available to buy. The animated version got a toy, and a Playmobil version got a toy. Some higher-end figures have larger-scale versions. But the only major attempt to make one for 6-inch scale figures was a Mattel crowdfunding project which failed. Happily, with a new movie, comes a new opportunity. Revealed today at Pulse Con, Hasbro‘s Ghostbusters: Afterlife Ecto-1 is part of the Plasma Collection.  However, there is some conflicting information about the scale — it may be made for smaller figures not yet revealed.

So what’s the difference with the original? This Ecto-1 features agung effects to make it look like it rusted in a barn for 35 years. However, it packs one new punch — the slide-out blast seat seen in the teaser trailer. Hasbro’s designers studied the camera-ready movie model to get every last bit of rust and paint-peel correct.

The Ecto-1 goes up for preorder at Target later today, and is sure to go fast. It also might provide incentive for everyone who hasn’t to grab the core Ghostbusters figures from wave one.

One additional new Ghostbusters item got a reveal besides the car. The Real Ghostbusters‘ vintage Ecto-Popper will soon return. Essentially a Nerf marshmallow blaster, the kids’ role-play weapon always comes in handy for silly fun.
