Adria Arjona May Be the Female Lead in Morbius the Living Vampire

Sony’s Morbius the Living Vampire may have cast its first supporting role. Deadline is reporting that Adria Arjona has entered negotiations to play Martine Bancroft, the love interest of Jared Leto’s Morbius.

In the Marvel comic book universe, Martine Bancroft was Michael Morbius’ fiancee before his transformation into a bloodthirsty creature of the night. Despite his change, Martine chose to remain by Morbius’ side in order to aid him in finding a cure for his condition. She also did her best to help him retain some of his humanity, despite the risk to herself. Martine later became a vampire herself, and Morbius was forced to kill her.

Arjona’s biggest claim to fame is her role as Dorothy Gale on the short-lived NBC series Emerald City, a modern take on The Wizard of Oz story. Her performance marked the first time the character had been played by a Hispanica actress. Arjona also appeared in Pacific Rim: Uprising, and she had a recurring role on the second season of HBO’s True Detective. She will next be seen on the Amazon Prime series Good Omens, which is based on the novel co-written by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Arjona will also star opposite Ryan Reynolds in Michael Bay’s upcoming Netflix film, 6 Underground.

Daniel Espinosa is directing the Morbius film from a script by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama. The film is expect to begin filming in early 2019, with a rumored July 2020 release date.
