Why Did Wilson Fisk Kill Vanessa’s Doctor in Daredevil: Born Again?

Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, committed a horrendous crime and killed a doctor who was treating Vanessa in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Episode 6. Vanessa gets brutally injured during Fisk’s public boxing match. This happens when Bullseye aims a sharp object towards Kingpin, but it unfortunately strikes Vanessa’s head, critically harming her. With Vanessa now gone, Kingpin is moving into his true danger element, as evidenced by his brutal murder of the doctor. But why did he kill the doctor?

Why Kingpin killed Vanessa’s Doctor in Daredevil: Born Again

Kingpin killed Vanessa’s doctor most likely because he wasn’t able to save her. As he was already grieving the death of his wife, he took all his anger out on him.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Episode 6, titled “Requiem,” featured Kingpin’s much darker side as he had now lost Vanessa. Her love kept him in control from going to extreme lengths. However, her death has brought out that side, with Fisk not even hesitating to commit brutal crimes, which he knows could potentially damage his mayoral image.

At the start of the episode, after disclosing that Vanessa is no longer, the doctor offers him condolences. Kingpin doesn’t take it in a good way, but unleashes his wrath upon him.

Ahead of that, the doctor expresses his gratitude for having the opportunity to treat the mayor’s wife. He keeps a hand on his shoulder and offers Kingpin a friendly hug, and Kingpin doesn’t decline. Things take an unexpected turn when Kingpin hugs the doctor too tightly and snaps his spine, which leads to his instant death.

In a conversation with CinemaBlend,  Ayelet Zurer, who plays Vanessa, earlier shared what it was like to learn about her character being killed and the direction the show would be taking from there. Moreover, she also revealed that some members, including D’Onofrio, comforted her to come to terms with the end of their story together.

“Yeah, none of us [saw it coming]. I received a call from Dario [Scardapane] first, and then from Sana [Amanat] and Vincent [D’Onofrio]. They explained where the show was going—how it would be structured, the entry point, and the exit point. With Vincent, we really just mourned the story together. But they also explained something I could understand—that they needed the ‘biggest gun’ to launch his explosion. So, yeah, I’m that gun,” she elaborated.
