How Avatar: Fire & Ash Ending Sets Up Avatar 4

Avatar: Fire & Ash ends in a glorious battle, but it also leaves some open threads for Avatar 4. Of course, the very expensive Avatar sequel will depend largely on the performance of the latest movie, which did not have a critical reception on par with the previous two films.

Here’s how Avatar: Fire & Ash leaves space for Avatar 4.

How Avatar: Fire & Ash sets up the fourth movie

Avatar: Fire & Ash is even more visually stunning than its massive predecessors. Despite the visual appeal, the film’s narrative remained less than impressive, which sheds some doubt on its turning profitable at the box office.

However, irrespective of this, Fire & Ash left behind enough for a sequel.

At the end of the third film, the Na’vi ultimately win the big battle, despite Quaritch teaming up with Varang. However, as the battle concluded, Varang survived the onslaught. Keeping Varang alive is one of the ways that the Avatar universe remains prepared for a sequel. Given that Varang had a relatively small part in this sequel, she can be a bigger villain in the upcoming film(s).

Moreover, the final fight between Quaritch and Jake ended with a faint sign of redemption in Quaritch. The colonel ended up jumping out of the floating island, indicating his death. But without a dead body and little else to confirm the death, Quaritch could very well be alive.

This means that the Avatar franchise has also kept the prospect of Quaritch getting redemption alive, a concept that Cameron has teased in the past.

With all these loose threads still active in the Avatar franchise, there is ample room for a fourth part. There is also a lot left to explore in the universe.

However, if James Cameron does not get to make the next films in the franchise, the director has revealed that he will write a book to end the story that he started.
