Has Comedy Central canceled South Park or renewed it for Season 29?
No, Comedy Central hasn’t canceled South Park for Season 29. It has been renewed till Season 30, extending its run to 2027.
In 2021, MTV Entertainment Studios announced that South Park had been greenlit through Season 30. The current season consisted of 5 episodes, with its finale titled “The Crap Out,” having premiered on December 10.
It focuses on Satan waiting and Stan desperately praying to delay the danger. A Christmas miracle remains their final chance to bring Antichrist on time. As the last two seasons followed an inconsistent release pattern, with several delays in between episodes, it’s hard to determine an approximate time for Season 29 to come out. However, it could be expected sometime in 2026.
Chris McCarthy, President/CEO -MTV Entertainment & CCO/Adult Animation – Paramount+, shared a few words about the renewal in his statement. It read, “Matt and Trey are world-class creatives who brilliantly use their outrageous humor to skewer the absurdities of our culture and we are excited to expand and deepen our long relationship with them to help fuel Paramount+ and Comedy Central. Franchising marquee content like South Park and developing new IP with tremendous talent like Matt and Trey, is at the heart of our strategy to continue growing Paramount+.”
Stone and Parker also further added, “Comedy Central has been our home for 25 years and we’re really happy that they’ve made a commitment to us for the next 75 years.” They revealed that when they first came to ViacomCBS, they were happy to receive the creative freedom “to try something new,” which turned out to be successful.
“We can’t wait to get back to doing traditional South Park episodes but now we can also try out new formats. It’s great to have partners who will always take a chance with us,” they further added.
