IT: Welcome to Derry certainly has been a thrilling ride so far, with scares spread around liberally across the episodes, along with a deep dive into Pennywise’s backstory. The infamous clown has been the pivot of the IT universe, and despite being defeated before, it has never been conquered. But IT: Welcome to Derry episode 5 seemingly introduced a weapon that can put an end to the entire cycle of Pennywise.
Can the dagger really kill Pennywise in It: Welcome to Derry?
While the series did not hold back on the jumps and thrills, it took its time to arrive at Pennywise, the primary antagonist of the franchise. In the fifth episode of the IT: Welcome to Derry, Pennywise went for a kill. But he was stopped by a mysterious weapon left behind in the sewer.
This is a new introduction in the IT universe, as there have been ways to beat Pennywise, but never to end him completely. It seems that this new weapon would be capable of just that.
IT: Welcome to Derry episode 5 revealed that Pennywise is actually an alien who crash-landed on Earth centuries before through a falling star. The entity started feeding on the inhabitants of Derry.
The indigenous Shokopiwah tribe created a weapon to contain it, a dagger crafted from the remnants of the star that crash-landed. The tribe survived by staying within its own territory for a long time before settlers encroached on the forest.
When Sesqui was killed, Necari made more of the weapons and buried 13 shards in the ground in the shape of a circle, effectively trapping IT inside. The descendants of the tribe had since taken care of this. It turns out that this circle was beneath the Neibolt house in the present day.
So, IT: Welcome to Derry finally revealed that Pennywise can be killed, giving a fresh perspective to the whole ordeal.
