How Much Does Predator: Badlands Need to Be Profitable?

Dan Trachtenberg’s Predator: Badlands opened to franchise record numbers at the box office. The film has surpassed the expectations set before its release, making it the biggest opening collection for the franchise. But, how much does it really need to make to become a profitable project or break even?

Here’s how much money it will need to make in its theatrical run.

How much did Predator: Badlands open with at the box office?

The movie debuted in cinemas on November 7, opening to $40 million domestically from 3,725 screens—franchise’s best. Additionally, it brought in another $40 million from international markets, bringing the total to $80 million.

Considering that it’s only been a few days and the fact that it has garnered favorable reviews, the movie could see a rise in viewership. But currently, it’s far from being a profitable film.

How much money does Predator: Badlands need to make?

The movie was reportedly made with a budget of $105 million. While its opening weekend numbers already seem closer to its budget, it won’t be profitable just by surpassing that number.

Generally, a new film needs to gross about 2 to 2.5 times its production budget. So, Predator: Badlands needs to make anywhere between $210 million and $262 million to break even and surpass it to become profitable. The number not only consists of the filming production budget, but also the money spent on promotion and merchandising.

It’s important to bear in mind that these numbers are just speculative and not the exact numbers, as they can only be determined by the film’s production company. In this case, the production company is 20th Century Studios, which is owned by The Walt Disney Company.

Predator: Badlands follows Dek, the runt of his Predator clan, who escapes to another planet after a betrayal by his own family. To seek redemption, he crash-lands on Genna to hunt down Kalisk, the planet’s most fierce creature. On his journey, he teams up with Thia, a damaged Weyland-Yutani synthetic. Together, they work on achieving the goal.
